Cultural Preservation & Promotion
The cultural heritage of the Twic people is one of their most precious assets — and one of their most vulnerable. Decades of conflict, displacement, and urbanization have disrupted the traditional mechanisms through which culture was transmitted: the cattle camp where young people learned from elders, the seasonal ceremonies that reinforced social bonds, the oral narratives that preserved historical memory.
The Twic Federation's cultural preservation program is a systematic effort to document, protect, and revitalize this heritage across all communities and among diaspora communities.
Key Activities:
- •Documentation of history, genealogies, and oral traditions
- •Supporting the vitality of Dinka language and dialects
- •Organizing cultural festivals and inter-community gatherings
- •Supporting traditional music, dance, and artistic practices
- •Creating resources for younger generations to learn heritage

Peacebuilding & Dialogue
The Twic people, like all communities in South Sudan, have experienced the devastating effects of conflict. Internal disputes, competition over resources, and involvement in broader armed conflicts have taken lives, displaced families, and eroded trust between individuals and groups. The Federation believes that sustainable peace must be built from within the community — through dialogue, through the engagement of traditional authorities, and through the creation of structures that can respond to tensions before they become violent.

Community Support & Resilience
The communities of the Twic people face substantial challenges to their wellbeing and resilience. Flooding has displaced thousands and destroyed livelihoods. Limited access to basic services — healthcare, education, clean water — places daily burdens on families. The legacy of conflict has left many households without the assets or support networks they need to withstand shocks.
The Federation's community support program mobilizes collective resources to respond to these challenges and build long-term resilience.

Diaspora Engagement
Twic communities are spread across East Africa, North America, Australia, Europe, and beyond. This programme ensures that diaspora members remain connected to their heritage, contribute to community initiatives, and maintain bonds with communities at home.
